GetClipMachine vs Submagic: a shorts editor vs a long-video clipper

Submagic sells monthly credits with a video duration limit per plan. GetClipMachine is flat €20/month with no meter, plus what Submagic does better.

4 min readSubmagic details verified 4 October 2026

Submagic and GetClipMachine overlap less than the category label suggests. Submagic is first an AI editor for short videos: captions, B-roll, zooms, silence removal, then publishing. Clipping long videos into shorts ("Magic Clips") is one feature inside it.

GetClipMachine does only the clipping job: a long video goes in, finished vertical clips come out.

On the numbers here. Submagic's plans were read from their public pricing page on 4 October 2026, linked at the bottom. That page does not define what one credit buys beyond "45 credits = 15 videos", does not say how many credits a Magic Clips job costs, and does not say whether the per-plan "video duration" limit applies to the long video you feed into Magic Clips. It also does not describe a free plan, only a "Try For Free" button. This comparison doesn't claim anything about those. Check directly if they matter to you.

The pricing, as published

Submagic lists three self-serve tiers plus a custom plan:

Plan Monthly Billed yearly Credits Video duration Export
Starter $19/mo $12/mo 45 (= 15 videos) 2 min 1080p, 30 FPS
Pro $39/mo $23/mo 120 (= 40 videos) 5 min 1080p, 30 FPS
Business $69/mo $41/mo 300 (= 100 videos) 30 min 4K, 60 FPS

Every tier is listed with no watermark, and with social publishing and analytics (one publishing profile per platform, three on Business). API minutes are sold separately as an add-on.

GetClipMachine has three plans:

Plan Price Videos Source length Export
Free €0 3 a month up to 45 min 1080p, watermarked
Pro €20/mo, or €16/mo billed yearly (€192) Unlimited up to 180 min and 4 GB 1080p, no watermark
Max €45/mo, or €36/mo billed yearly (€432) Up to 240 hours a month up to 6 hours and 4 GB 4K, no watermark

Pro is $20 in the Americas and Max $45. There are no credits, no per-minute meter and no clip quota. Details are on the pricing page.

Two meters vs none

Submagic's plans carry two limits at once: a monthly credit allowance and a video duration per plan. The published ratio is three credits per video, so Starter is 15 videos a month and Business is 100.

For someone editing their own short recordings, that is easy to plan around: a talking-head video shot for Reels is under two minutes anyway.

It fits less well when the source is a 90-minute podcast or a three-hour stream VOD. The longest published duration is 30 minutes, on the $69 tier, and their pricing page does not say how Magic Clips counts against it. Ask before you subscribe for that use.

Our Pro limit is 180 minutes and 4 GB per video, with nothing counted beyond that. The general argument about meters is in what credits really cost.

What Submagic does better

  • It is an editor. B-roll, auto-zooms, hook titles, removal of bad takes and silences, audio clean-up, custom templates and a brand kit are on their plan lists. We have none of those: no timeline, no B-roll, no templates, no caption style library (you pick caption colours and size, not fonts or animations). Our branding is one layout, Framed, below.
  • Publishing and analytics. Their homepage describes scheduling a post and publishing from the editor. We do neither, you download the file and post it yourself.
  • No watermark on the cheapest tier, and a lower entry price: $12/mo on annual billing against our €16.
  • More caption languages. They state 123; we cover 99.
  • An API, team collaboration and AI avatars, none of which we offer.

What's different here

  • No meter. Unlimited videos on Pro, and regenerating or adjusting a clip costs nothing.
  • Long sources as the normal case. Paste a YouTube, Twitch VOD, Kick VOD or Vimeo link, or upload a file, up to three hours.
  • 4K on Max at €45. Submagic lists 4K on Business only.
  • Framing that follows the content. Face tracking, a stacked layout for two-person shots, and gameplay or screen recordings shown whole rather than cropped to a third of the picture.
  • A branded layout with no editing. Set your logo, name and @handle once, and any clip can render Framed: that header and a headline on white, the whole video uncropped below, captions under it.
  • A virality score with written reasoning on every clip, and clips that end on complete sentences. We measured that and published the numbers.
  • A free plan with stated limits: 3 videos a month, watermarked.

Where we're the weaker pick

  • Your footage is already short and what you need is editing: B-roll, zooms, caption fonts and animations, silence removal.
  • You want scheduling, publishing and analytics in the same tool.
  • You need team seats, an API or a mobile app.
  • You clip live streams as they happen. We handle VODs only.
  • You want to store originals with us. Uploaded source files are kept for 30 days; finished clips stay in your Library.

Short version

Submagic if you film short videos and want them edited, captioned, styled and published from one place, and your volume fits the credits.

GetClipMachine if your raw material is long (podcasts, streams, interviews) and you want clips out of it without counting anything. For the other tools in this category, see vs Opus Clip, vs Vizard and vs Klap.
