GetClipMachine vs CapCut: a full editor vs a tool that only clips
CapCut is a full video editor with a long-video-to-shorts feature inside it. GetClipMachine only finds and cuts clips. An honest look at which one fits.

CapCut is a video and photo editor that runs online, on desktop, on mobile and on tablets. Turning a long video into shorts is one feature inside it, next to templates, effects, background removal, text-to-speech and a timeline.
GetClipMachine does only the clipping. So this is less a like-for-like comparison than a question of whether you want an editor with a clipping feature, or a clipping tool with no editor.
On the numbers here. Read from CapCut's own public pages on 4 October 2026, all linked at the bottom. Their long-video-to-shorts pages do not publish a maximum video length, a file size limit, a usage limit, the export resolution of generated clips, or which parts of the feature need Pro. Their help centre says there is no fixed global price for CapCut Pro. This page claims nothing about those. Check in the product if they matter to you.
What CapCut's feature does, as published
CapCut's pages describe a tool that takes a long video and returns short clips automatically:
- Upload from local storage, CapCut's cloud, Google Drive or Dropbox. The pages do not mention pasting a link.
- "AI Highlights" identifies key moments "based on speech patterns", and you can choose a clip duration.
- Automatic captions, customisable before export. One page says 20+ languages.
- Reframing from 16:9 to 9:16.
- Sharing straight to TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.
- The clips open in the CapCut editor, with its templates.
CapCut describes the tool as free and says it produces shorts "without watermarks".

CapCut's help centre says Pro pricing "can vary depending on your region, device, and available promotions" and gives no figure. A CapCut article dated 23 September 2026 lists $19.99 a month and $179.99 a year, and adds that prices vary by region, platform, taxes and discounts. Treat that as indicative and check the price shown in your own app.
What CapCut does better
This is a much larger product, and for many people the better purchase:
- It is an editor. Timeline, effects, transitions, templates, stock resources, music and AI audio tools. We have none of that. If a clip needs restructuring, B-roll or a sound bed, CapCut does it and we don't.
- Apps. Desktop, mobile and tablet, as well as the browser. We run in the browser only.
- Publishing. It shares to social platforms directly. With us you download the file and post it yourself.
- Cloud imports from Google Drive and Dropbox.
- Team features on its paid plans. We have no team seats.
- A free version that CapCut says exports these clips without a watermark. Our free plan watermarks.
What's different here
- Clip selection is the whole product. The AI reads the full transcript, picks the moments, and gives each clip a virality score with written reasoning, so you can triage by reading. How that works.
- Paste a link. YouTube, Twitch VODs, Kick VODs, Vimeo and most direct video links, as well as file uploads.
- Published limits. 180 minutes and 4 GB per video on Pro, 45 minutes on Free, and nothing metered inside that. No credits to run out of: what credits really cost.
- Framing that depends on the shot. Face tracking for one person, a stacked layout for two-person shots, and gameplay or screen recordings shown whole instead of cropped.
- Two layouts per clip, no editing. Full screen follows the speaker; Framed shows the whole video on white under your logo, name and @handle. Switching a finished clip renders it again.
- Word-by-word captions in 99 languages, detected automatically.
- Nothing to install, and a Library that keeps finished clips. Original uploads are kept for 30 days.
Where we're the weaker pick
- You want to edit. This is the main one: we have no timeline, effects, transitions, music library, templates, stickers or B-roll.
- You want to work on a phone or in a desktop app.
- You want scheduling, publishing or analytics in the same tool.
- You work in a team and need shared seats, or you need an API.
- You already use CapCut and its AI clips are good enough.
- You want watermark-free exports without paying.
Short version
CapCut if you want to edit what the AI gives you, on any device, and publish from the same place.
GetClipMachine if you don't want to edit at all: you paste a link or upload a file, and get captioned vertical clips with a score and a reason, at one flat price. Related: vs Opus Clip covers a dedicated clipping tool, and vs Descript another editor with clipping built in.
