GetClipMachine vs Opus Clip: flat pricing vs processing minutes

Both tools do the same core job: you give them a long video, they find the moments worth posting, cut them to vertical, and burn in captions. The difference that actually matters day to day is how you're charged for using them.

Opus Clip meters your usage by video processing time. GetClipMachine doesn't meter it at all. Everything below follows from that one difference.

On the numbers in this article. Opus Clip's plans and limits were checked on their public pricing page and homepage on 2 September 2026, and the sources are linked at the bottom. Pricing changes, if you're reading this much later, verify before deciding. Where I couldn't confirm a specific figure, I say so rather than guessing.

The pricing models, side by side

Opus Clip runs four tiers: Free at $0, Starter at $15/month, Pro at $29/month, and Business on custom pricing. Their free plan includes "60 minutes of video processing time refreshed monthly", and their paid plans are described as including "flexible upload credits, available on both a monthly and yearly basis".

I could not verify the exact upload-credit allowance for Starter or Pro from their public pricing page: the comparison table doesn't publish a number. That's worth knowing in itself: if the cap matters to your workflow, check it before you commit.

GetClipMachine has two tiers. Free is 3 videos a month with a watermark. Pro is €15/month flat for unlimited videos, unlimited clips, and unlimited source minutes. There is no credit balance, no upload-minute counter, and no overage. A heavy month and a quiet month produce the same invoice.

Why metering is the thing to think about

Processing minutes sound generous until you map them to real source material. A single two-hour podcast is 120 minutes of processing. One three-hour Twitch VOD is 180. If your inputs are long-form, which is the entire point of a clipping tool: a monthly minute allowance is consumed by a handful of uploads, not dozens.

This is the specific failure mode: you're mid-campaign, the allowance runs out, and your options are to buy more or stop posting. The meter decides your publishing cadence rather than your content calendar doing it.

If your inputs are short, or you clip a couple of videos a month, metering genuinely may never bite you, and Opus Clip's free tier is more generous than ours for occasional use. Sixty minutes a month for free is a real offer. Ours is three videos, and if those are three-hour VODs you'll get far more processing out of our free tier than theirs; if they're three ten-minute videos, theirs is the better deal.

Storage: a difference people find out about late

Opus Clip's pricing table lists media storage expiry per tier: the Free plan notes storage "Expires after 3 days", and Starter "Expires after 29 days". Free MP4 exports carry a "3-day limit", Starter a "30-day limit".

If you clip in batches and post over the following weeks, that matters. Your GetClipMachine library persists, clips stay in your account until you delete them, on both Free and Pro.

What Opus Clip does that we don't

I'd rather you pick the right tool than pick ours, so here is where Opus Clip is genuinely ahead:

• Timeline and text-based editing. Their Pro tier includes "Text & timeline-based editing". GetClipMachine has no editor at all. You get a finished clip; if you want to restructure it, you take it into CapCut or Premiere.
• AI B-roll. Opus Clip's Starter plan lists AI B-Roll (3 clips/month). We don't generate or insert stock footage.
• AI voice-over. Listed on Starter at 20 per day. We don't do voice synthesis.
• Team and collaboration features. Their higher tiers include team collaboration; we have single-account workspaces only.
• A more generous free tier for short videos, as covered above.

If your workflow depends on editing the clip after the AI picks it, or on generated B-roll, Opus Clip is the more complete product and you should use it.

What we do that's different

• Flat, unmetered pricing. One price, no ceiling on videos, clips or source length.
• Sentence-accurate cuts. Clips start and end on complete sentences rather than being trimmed to a target duration. This is measurable, and we measure it, see why AI clips cut mid-sentence for what actually causes the problem and how we fixed it.
• A virality score with its reasoning shown. Every clip comes back with an overall score plus separate hook, flow, value and trend sub-scores, and a sentence explaining why that moment was picked. You can disagree with it, which is the point: a number with no reasoning is just decoration.
• 3+ hour sources. Full podcasts, streams and webinars in one upload.
• No watermark and 4K on Pro.

Where we're the weaker choice

• You want to edit clips inside the tool. We deliberately don't do this.
• You need generated B-roll, voice-over, or avatars.
• You're clipping a couple of short videos a month: a free tier with 60 processing-minutes may cover you entirely, at zero cost.
• You need multi-seat team workflows.

The short version

Choose Opus Clip if you want an all-in-one editing suite and your volume is predictable enough that a metered plan won't get in the way.

Choose GetClipMachine if you're clipping long-form content at volume and you want the bill to stay the same whether you upload four videos this month or forty.
