How to make your clips look like your brand, without opening an editor

Caption colours, your logo and @handle, a headline and one layout used every time. How to make short clips recognisably yours, for your own channel or a client's.

3 min read

A viewer decides whether to keep watching in about a second, and in that second they do not read your handle. What they register is the look: the colours of the captions, the shape of the frame, a logo in the corner they have seen before. Branding a clip is about making that look the same every time, so the tenth clip is recognised before it is read.

None of this needs an editor. These are the four things that do most of the work, in the order we would set them up.

1. Caption colours

Captions are on screen for the whole clip, so they are the largest piece of branding you have. Pick a text colour and a highlight colour (the word being spoken) and keep them on every post.

Choose from your brand colours if one of them is light: yellow, lime, cyan, pink and orange all work over a dark outline. If your brand colour is dark navy or black, keep it out of the captions and use it in your logo instead, because dark text disappears on dark footage. More on choosing a pair, and on size, in caption styles that hold up on a phone.

In GetClipMachine this is the Captions card on the Brand page, and it is on every plan.

2. Your logo, name and @handle

A handle burned into the clip survives being reposted, screen-recorded and shared to a group chat, where the platform's own username does not travel with it. It is also how someone who sees your clip on Reels finds you on TikTok.

The Framed layout does this as a post: your round logo, display name and @handle at the top, a headline under them, and the whole video full width below, with the captions underneath on white. Because the video is shown whole rather than cropped to vertical, it also suits footage that does not crop well: a wide podcast set, a screen recording, gameplay.

If you prefer the full-screen vertical crop for some videos, you choose per video, and you can switch any finished clip between the two.

3. A headline on every clip

The first line a viewer reads should tell them why to stay: the claim, the question or the setup. In Framed, that headline sits above the video. We write one for each clip from what is said in it, and you can rewrite it on any clip; the clip renders again with your words.

Keep headlines short enough to read at a glance. The frame fits three lines, but one or two read faster on a phone held at arm's length.

4. The same layout, every time

Recognition comes from repetition. A channel that alternates between three looks has no look. Pick a layout per channel (Framed or Full screen), one caption style, and leave them alone for a month before judging them.

Branding clips for clients

Agencies and clippers who post for more than one creator need the brand to change with the client.

  • Brand profiles. On the Max plan you can keep up to 10 brand profiles (logo, name, @handle) and pick one for each video, so every clip from a client's podcast carries that client's logo and handle.
  • Caption style is per account, not per profile. Today one caption style applies to every profile on the account. If two clients need different caption colours, change the style between their videos, or restyle a finished clip with Apply my caption style.
  • No watermark on paid plans. Free clips carry a small GetClipMachine watermark; Pro and Max remove it, which matters when the clip goes out under a client's name.

For the commercial side of clipping for clients, see clipping for agencies.

A 10-minute setup

  1. Open the Brand page.
  2. Upload your logo (it is cropped to a circle), and add your display name and @handle.
  3. Under Captions, pick a text colour, a highlight colour and a size, and save.
  4. In the Studio, choose Framed or Full screen for the video and upload it or paste a link.

From then on every clip comes out in your colours, with your name on it, and the only thing you change per post is the headline, if you want to.

Frequently asked questions

How do I put my logo on every clip?

In GetClipMachine, set up your brand once on the Brand page (logo, name and @handle) and choose the Framed layout for a video. Every clip from that video gets your logo, name and handle at the top, with a headline and the whole video underneath.

Can I use a different brand for each client?

On the Max plan you can keep up to 10 brand profiles and pick one for each video. The caption style is one per account, so it applies to every profile.

Do Free clips carry a watermark?

Yes. Free clips, including Framed ones, carry a small GetClipMachine watermark. Pro and Max remove it.
